Specifications

The Hurricane SD 217 is the 22-foot version of a proven deck boat platform — a step down in length from the 2400 but not in quality. It is the right call for groups of 6 to 8 who do not need maximum capacity and want a boat that is a little easier to handle in tighter waterways, marina basins, and the shallow backwater spots that make South Florida boating interesting.

The SD 217 in Burgundy has been in our fleet a while and it has held up well. Hurricane builds their hulls to take abuse — not because renters are hard on boats intentionally, but because South Florida sun, salt, and continuous use will show you exactly where a manufacturer cut corners. This one has not shown us anything to worry about. We run it from Pompano Beach and Hollywood Beach — both giving you Intracoastal access and the option to push through the inlet offshore when conditions cooperate.

It handles chop better than its size suggests because of the strake design on the hull. You will notice the difference on the afternoon return trip when the wind has been building all day and the Intracoastal has a solid 2-foot chop running. Other boats in this category get wet and uncomfortable. This one stays manageable. If your group is larger — 10 people — or you want more top-end speed and the same Hurricane DNA, the Hurricane 2400 Baby Blue is the 24-foot version of this hull and handles everything the SD 217 does at a bigger scale.

Good for day trips, sandbar stops, short overnight anchoring, and Intracoastal cruising between Miami and Boca. Our multi-day rental rates work well for the Hollywood to Pompano corridor — enough time to anchor in a different spot each night without rushing. All twelve boats across the fleet are listed on the fleet page with specs and availability.
